Friday Prineville to Home

Awoke to spectacular sunny morning, frost on the windshield. Headed east on Rt 26 through John Day. Stopped off at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Beautiful colored rocks. Nice lunch at the local diner in Prairie City. Home through Vail and Ontario, arrived by 7:00PM.

After an outstanding breakfast bagel at The Green Salmon, we parted ways with the McDermotts and headed south toward Florence, then on to Eugene, La Pine, Bend and Prineville. The weather had cleared so we were able to get a great view from atop the hill at Cape Perpetua. Hit some snow going over the pass.

Wednesday around Yachats

Woke to pouring rain and high winds. Yeah! Drove just a few miles south to Cape Perpetua National Scenic Area. Hiked down to "Devil's Churn", then over to "Spouting Horn" and "Thor's Well". Spectacular crashing waves! Then back north to "Seal Rock". Tide was high so we couldn't get down on the beach much. For future reference, go at low tide!

Ate out three ties today. Ugh! Great breakfast at the Drift Inn, great lunch at Luna Sea, great dinner at Heidi's Italian.....all in the quirky little village of Yachats.

We left The Dalles, crossed the river at Hood River and headed west along the north side of the Columbia on Rt 14. Connect with I205 near Vancouver, cross back over the Columbia and go right to IKEA by the airport. Very convenient!

Then the drive in heavy city traffic through Portland, south on I-5, arriving at the Adobe Resort in Yachats at about 5:00PM. Steve and Mary we already there. Great to re-connect. Excellent dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Weather is rainy and promising to get worse!

Its March, time for a road trip! This is a one week trip over to the coast to meet with our good friends Steve and Mary McDermott in Yachats. Day one we drive to The Dalles via the thruway, crossing at Biggs Junction so we could stop at Maryhill. Day 2 we drive to Yachats, after a required stop at IKEA in Portland. Day 3 we play around Yachats. Day 4 we drive to Prineville, OR and Day 5 we drive home via the John Day route.

Our wish is for the weather to be horrible, with storms coming in, creating lots of crashing waves!
